Summer Jazz Workshop

Summer Jazz Workshop

June 19-23, 2017

The Georgia State University Summer Jazz Workshop has earned a reputation for offering an outstanding program over the last eight years. The focus of the summer program is on jazz combos where each combo is coached by one of our renowned faculty members. We assemble educators and performers dedicated to providing an intensive learning experience for musicians from middle school through high school at all levels. Classes in jazz improvisation, jazz theory, combo performance, and master class sessions allow students the opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential.  All students have an opportunity to participate in the famous Thursday evening Jam Session. The combo rehearsals are led by our instructors, where students are matched with others of the same ability level.

The Summer Jazz Workshop is also helping to develop the next generation of Jazz artists and preserving the great American art form. Important by-products of the program include helping to raise self-esteem, teaching leadership, teamwork, problem-solving skills, good citizenship, and respect for culture.

The GSU Summer Jazz Workshop offers:

  • five full days of small combo instruction
  • jazz improvisation classes
  • instrumental master classes on all instruments
  • special guest clinicians
  • jam session
  • final concert performance
